Additional Assistance

In addition to our food and financial assistance, we provide a variety of other basic services to residents of the South End throughout the year.

  •  A vital component of our Emergency Assistance Program is the provision of information about other social services and the referral of clients to other agencies for any assistance SLCM cannot provide.
  • SLCM works closely with Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, referring clients to the church clothing closet.  Clients must come to into our offices to pick up of referral form.  The clothing closet is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.
  • TARC tickets are available for clients as well.   These tickets are purchased out of additional E.A. funds as often as possibl

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

SLCM social workers also work in partnership with other agencies and local churches to facilitate special programs for our clients.

  • Prior to the school year, SLCM works with churches, businesses, and individuals to provide school supplies to over 150 low-income families in the South End.  SLCM screens eligible families in advance for the supplies.  After collecting, purchasing, and sorting the supplies, SLCM distributes grade-appropriate supply packs to the children.
  • Similarly at Christmas time, SLCM runs a Toy Shop, supplying children with Christmas gifts.  Again these toys, or the funds to purchase them, are donated by local churches, businesses and individuals.
  • In additional, SLCM’s sponsoring churches provide Christmas food baskets to over 230 families a year.  SLCM staff screen eligible families and distribute family lists to volunteering churches.  The churches than purchase, sort, pack, and distribute the food
